Who can open an account online?
Online account registration is available to all existing individual customers who have any account (such as Financing, Credit Card, Savings Account, Current Account & Investment Account) with Bank Islam.
How to open an account online?
Customers can access our website at www.bankislam.com and look for "Account Opening" or go directly to https://vao.bankislam.com.my/openaccount to select the account they wish to open.
If I am a new Bank Islam customer, can I open an account online?
For now, only existing Bank Islam customers can open an account online. We are upgrading the system to allow new customers to open accounts online in the future.
What types of accounts can I open online?
The types of accounts that can be opened online are as follows:
- Qard Savings Account-i
- Basic Savings Account-i
- Qard Current Account-i
- Basic Current Account-i
- Al-Awfar Account
- iGAIN Account
- Investment Account
Can I open an account online at any time?
Online account opening is available daily from 6:01 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. (Malaysia time).

Customers must make the initial deposit within 30 days, otherwise the account will be automatically closed after 30 days.
Deposit & Account Activation Process
Do I need to upload any documents to open an account?
No documents are required for existing customers.
What should I do after opening the account?
Log in to Internet Banking to view the new account. Remember to deposit funds via fund transfer to your new account.
How can I transfer the initial deposit?
The deposit can be made through:
- Own account transfer
- DuitNow from other banks
- Cash Deposit Machines
What happens if I fail to deposit within 30 days?
The account will be automatically closed if no deposit is made within 30 days after the account is opened.
Can a third party (like parents) transfer the deposit to my new account?
Yes, we accept transfers from any source including third parties or through DuitNow.
Can I transfer an amount less than the initial deposit?
No. If the transfer amount is less than the initial deposit, you cannot proceed.
Account Verification & Activation
How do I know if the account was successfully opened?
A confirmation page will be displayed after the account opening process. You can also check the account number on the account summary screen after logging into Internet Banking or the GO by Bank Islam app.
Will the opened account be activated automatically?
Yes. You only need to make the initial deposit within 30 days to start using the account.
Do I need to register a phone number to open an account online?
Yes. The registered phone number is required to receive SMS verification codes. If the phone number differs from our records, please visit the nearest Bank Islam branch to update it.
Debit Card, Cheque Book & Information Update
Will I receive a new debit card for the new account?
No. The new account will be linked to the existing debit card. If you have more than one debit card, it will be linked to the latest active card. For new card applications or unlinking, please visit the nearest branch.
Can I issue cheques if I open a current account online?
Yes, please visit your preferred branch to apply for a cheque book.
If the application form is not submitted, can I continue the application later?
Sorry, pending applications will not be saved. You need to start again.
Full name and/or permanent address on the application screen not updated, how to update?
Please visit the nearest branch to update your personal information.
